LID POSITION DETERMINATION One should record the position of the lid margins with respect to the limbus. This is often more important than actual palpebral aperture measurement in determining the lens type and diameter to be used. Estimate the coverage of the upper part of the cornea by the upper lid in mm. If it covers some of the cornea, for example 2 mm, then it should be recorded as +2. If the upper lid is above the upper limbus, for example by 1 mm, than it should be recorded as -1. Likewise if the lower lid covers 1 mm of the lower cornea it would be recorded as +1. If it is below the lower limbus by 2 mm, it would be recorded as -2.
